Archie Burzynski

Joseph Arthur "Archie" Burzynski died on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, in Chattanooga.He was born on March 6, 1925 in Detroit, Mich.He is survived by his loving wife, Amelia; sons, Mark (Cathy) and William Burzynski (Margaret); daughter, Mary McMahon (Brian); grandson, Joey Burzynski; and granddaughters, Katie Burzynski and Sarah Wildman (Matthew).Joseph attended St. Florian grade school and Hamtramck High. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1943 and attended Gunnery School in Farragut, Idaho before fighting aboard LCT 1069 near the Philippine Islands. Joseph was honorably discharged in March of 1946.Joseph married Amelia Hiop on May 9, 1953 in Hamtramck, Mich., and spent 35 years as a tree arborist for the city of Detroit. Joseph was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed long days of boating, volleyball, swimming and camping. He was also an accomplished handyman and took pride in never having to hire a contractor for home repairs. After moving to Chattanooga in 2011, Sundays included Mass at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul and lunch outings to his favorite downtown restaurants, including Clumpies Ice Cream, Tony's Pasta Shop and Rembrandt's Coffee House. Joseph will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made in both Detroit and Chattanooga.A funeral Mass will be held at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, Mass will be conducted by Msgr. George E.
