Roger Stroup

Roger F. Stroup, 71, died peacefully on March 29, 2014. He lived in the East Ridge and Ringgold area his entire life. He retired from BASF in 2004 where he was employed for many years. He had many interests and talents from horses to boating to stock car racing. His love for animals began with his grandpa Williams Mule "Bart". As a teenager he worked for J.B. Vick riding and training horses. He began competing in timed events on his quarter horse "Cherokee" winning many pick up races and barrel races along with the 1970 Timed Event Championship here in the Southeast. Years later he got involved in Racking Horses and purchased "Daves Lucky Boy". He and Lucky won the Racking Horse Championship at the Catoosa County Saddle Club in 1996, 1997, 1999, and 2000. He served as President of the Saddle Club for many years. After his retirement you could find Roger down at his barn "Barley Able Stables" with his animals. Roger was ready to welcome friends and swap stories and share his wisdom gleaned from years of working and raising his variety of animals. He is survived by his son, Barry (Terri) Stroup; special friend, Linda Schroeder; sisters, Pat (Don) Towns, Jane (Bob) Steele; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, April 1, 2014 in the Wallis-Stewart Chapel with the Rev. Glen Cavin officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. Family will receive friends prior to the service today at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Chattanooga Therapeutic Recreation Services 1254 East Third Street Chattanooga, TN 37404. Arrangements are by Wallis-Stewart Chapel of Wilson Funeral Homes-Ringgold, Ga.
