V. Lamar Eaker

Lamar Eaker, 86, a native of Chattanooga and resident of Mobile since 1973, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at a local hospital. Mr. Eaker was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga class of 1951. Mr. Eaker served during World War II and the Korean War as an S-2 Officer of the intelligence section of an Armored Group Headquarters, with 18 months overseas duty. He served as president of the Tennessee Credit Union League (statewide association of all credit unions in Tennessee) for 20 years. He was a member of the Board of directors of Memorial Theater, Tivoli Theater, Brainerd Lodge 736 F & AM, Alhambra Shrine Temple and Chattanooga politics as campaign manager for Mayor Robert Kirk Walker. In 1973 he moved to Mobile with Loyal American Life Insurance as Director of Field Operations and retired in 1997 as First Senior vice president. Mr. Eaker was an active member of Ashland United Methodist Church. Mr. Eaker was preceded in death by his parents Thelma and Eugene Eaker; and a sister, Genia M. LeCroy. He is survived by his wife, Bettye J. Eaker, of Mobile; his sister, Bettye E. Mallicoat, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; his son, Dr. J. Ronald Eaker (Susan), of Augusta, Ga.; a daughter, India Mattox (Tim), of Mobile, Ala.; and four grandchildren, Katie and Caroline Eaker and Cole and Tyler Mattox. Visitation will be today, April 7, 2014 from 10-11 a.m. with service at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home with Entombment in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ashland Place United Methodist Church in his memory.
