Truman Sherrill

Truman C. Sherrill, 65, of Chattanooga, passed away at his home Saturday, April 5, 2014. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, he was the son of the late Truman Cantrell and Charlie Belle Sherrill and was also preceded in death by his son, James Cantrell Sherrill. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville Collage of engineering, earning a degree in civil engineering and receiving his Professional Engineers license in 1993. He recently retired from Barge, Waggoner, Summer and Cannon where he has earned several awards for his engineering skills including the Jo Conn Guild Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award and the 2009 Dan Barge Jr. Award of Merit for his efforts on the site design and implementation for the Volkswagen facility at Enterprise South. After his retirement he had established his engineering consulting business and was involved in various projects. He was also a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Amy Hughlett Sherrill; mother-in-law, Jere D. Hughlett; brother and his wife, James and Barbara Hughlett, Farragut, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Kay H. Hutcherson; several nieces and nephews. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Humane Educational Society, 212 N.
