John Martin Sr.

John L. Martin Sr., 72, of Soddy-Daisy, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at NHC of Dunlap. John was a lifetime resident of Soddy-Daisy, was a Sunday School teacher, and had served on several church boards. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He was retired from Coors Manufacturing Co. for over 30 years and was a member of Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juliette Martin; two children, Michelle and Kenneth Martin; brother, Claude Martin Jr.; parents, Claude Jr. and Ada Sharp Martin. Survivors: two daughters, Maria Haliton, Soddy-Daisy, Anita Rankin, Chattanooga; two sons, John L.Martin Jr., Graysville, Tenn., Timothy Martin, Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, Sally Hyatte, Red Bank, Marie Pierce, Soddy-Daisy, Devorah Wilkerson, Dayton and Sally Marie Martin, Florida; five brothers, Charles Martin,Hixson, Morris and Bryant Martin, both of Soddy-Daisy, Darryl and Jerry, both of Florida; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church with Rev. James and Sister Lynn Willis. Interment in Pleasant Hill AME Cemetery. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
