Charles Nelson II

Charles Henry Nelson II, 84, of Chattanooga, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at St. Barnabas Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County, a member of Bethel AME Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Julia Gibson Nelson; his parents, Charles D. Nelson and Hannah Scruggs and a host of other relatives. Survivors include his sons, Gerald Nelson Sr., of Charleston, S.C., Carl (Candace) Nelson, of Chattanooga, Jeffery (LaQuanna) Nelson, of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Daphne Nelson Stargin, of Franklin, Tenn.; Yolanda Yvette Woods, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a host of grandchildren, adopted grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the Bethel AME Church, 2000 Walker St., Chattanooga, TN 37404, 423- 622-1261. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014, at National Cemetery with the Rev. A.J. Holman Sr. officiating. The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
