Raymond Whittenbu

Raymond Whittenburg Raymond W. Whittenburg, 90 years of age, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014. He was born to D.C. "Ches" and Florence Whittenburg on Jan. 6, 1924 in Tyner, Tenn. After later moving to Ooltewah, he graduated from Ooltewah High School. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lewis (Marie) Whittenburg; and a sister, Mary Belle (John) Lee. He was employed by Southern Railroad as an upholster, after they closed their Shop here, he was with McCracken Brothers Furniture Co., repairs and upholstery. Surviving relatives are his wife, Dorothea "Dot" Sedman Whittenburg, having two months short of 69 years of marriage; a daughter, Ginger (Craig) Bush; grandchildren, Brittany (Ron) Jones, Paige (Eder) Rios and Ashley Bush; great-grandchildren, Corbin, Lyla and Adison; brother, Donald (Joan) Whittenburg; several nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins. Raymond and Dot were members of Wesley United Methodist Church for 41 years in which they were very active. Currently they are members of Christ United Methodist Church. Raymond was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling in all 50 states as well as many countries out of the United States. He also liked gardening, bird hunting, fishing and beekeeping. A generous man, giving much and asking nothing in return. Being an adorable Daddy and "Pop" and a loving and providing husband a helper to all. He will be sorely missed and remembered forever. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday April 19, 2014, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Allison officiating. The interment will follow in Plowman Cemetery. The family request that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimers Association, 7625 Hamilton Park Dr. Suite 22, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
