Peggie Pickett

Peggie Moon Pickett, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. A native of Piedmont, Ala., Peggie was a daughter of the late Paul Everett and Mildred Coffia Moon. She graduated from Dalton High School in 1955 and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Peggie retired from Red Bank Baptist Church, having spent more than 20 years as the church secretary. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, then Red Bank Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and Memorial Hospital. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Leon Thurman Pickett; children, Kim (Russell) Cantrell, Missy (Lance) Smith, Allison (Jim) Gifford, and Rusty Pickett; grandchildren, Emily (Adam) Watkins, Annie Smith, Parker and Peyton Cantrell and Haden Lamance; brothers, Ken (Justine) Moon, Don Moon, and Rick (Cindy) Moon; and a sister, Paulette Amsler. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-8 p.m. today and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Red Bank Baptist Church Library or Avalon Hospice.
