Calvin Howard "Sammy" Henley Jr., 81, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, after a long, hard fought battle with ALS "Lou Gehrig's Disease". Sammy attended Central High School where he excelled in athletics and skipping class to go see the love of his life, Dixie Jean Harding, at Tyner High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Bayside Baptist Church. Sammy played fast pitch softball at Warner Park for many years and enjoyed the game of golf well into his 70's at Creeks Bend Golf Course. He was a beloved coach in youth sports of baseball and football. When his children or grandchildren were playing sports, you didn't have to look far to find Sammy, he was always there to cheer them on. Sammy was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dixie Harding Henley; and his parents, Ethel Scoggins Henley and Calvin H. Henley Sr. He is survived by his five loving children, Suzette (Ron) Linfonte, Lindy (Teri) Henley, Kip (Sissi) Henley, Brent, Deonne (Jimmy) Taylor; and grandchildren, Erin, Ronnie, Kyle, Korey, Katie, Lauren, Tiffany, Keelie, Jordan and Landry.
