Sammy Henley

Calvin Howard Henley Jr. "Sammy", 81, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, after a long, hard fought battle with ALS "Lou Gehrig's Disease". Sammy attended Central High School where he excelled in athletics and skipping class to go see the love of his life, Dixie Jean Harding, at Tyner High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Bayside Baptist Church. Sammy played fast pitch softball at Warner Park for many years and enjoyed the game of golf well into his 70's at Creeks Bend Golf Course. He was a beloved coach in youth sports of baseball and football. When his children or grandchildren were playing sports, you didn't have to look far to find Sammy, he was always there to cheer them on. Sammy is preceded in death by his wife, of 56 years, Dixie Harding Henley; and his parents, Ethel Scoggins Henley and Calvin H Henley Sr. He is survived by his five loving children, Suzette Linfonte (Ron), Lindy Henley (Teri), Kip Henley (Sissi), Brent Henley (Holly), Deonne Taylor (Jimmy); grandchildren: Erin, Ronnie, Kyle, Korey, Katie, Lauren, Darbi, Stormi, Tiffany, Keelie, Jordan and Landry. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Henley (Kathy), Don Henley (Joyce), and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. James Newby, Dr. Susan Rapp, Dr. Matthew Kodsi, Avery Suggs, Loretta Nunn and Joy Blea for the loving care you gave our dad, we will never forget you! Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Bayside Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Jerry DeFriese, Kenny DeFriese, Sam DeFriese, Jeff Pair, Joey Pair and Alonzo "Zo" Reel serving as pallbearers.
