Rev. Bill Freeney

Sam William Freeney, 88, a resident of Hixson, answered Gods call on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014. Bill was a member of Dallas Bay Baptist Church and a retired Baptist minister, having served as pastor of churches in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia for 50 years. He received his education for the ministry at Tennessee Temple College. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. When he returned home in Chattanooga, he met and married Barbara Owens, celebrating 65 years of marriage before her death in January 2012. In addition to his wife, Barbara, Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. Freeney and Janie Plummer Freeney; one brother. Tom Freeney; four sisters, Opal Kilgore, Sidney Smith Gallatin, Frances Shook and Jeanette Francisco Pierce; and his granddaughter, Angela Michelle Cox He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn (Don) Johnson, of Hixson, and Donna (Kenny) Davis, of Wetumpka, Ala.; and his son, Jim (Flavia) Freeney, of Millbrook Ala.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at the North Campus of Dallas Bay Baptist Church at 4976 Alpha Drive, Hixson, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, with the Rev. Jason Robertson, the Rev. Ted Painter and Dr. David McNabb officiating. Interment will follow to Hamilton Memorial Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
