Sam Hatfield

"Sam" Hatfield, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas and was a member of Mission Ridge Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran, having served during WW II, and was previously employed with Chris-Craft Cruisers for more than 25 years as a boat specialist. He enjoyed raising game roosters and bantam show birds, but his passion in life was taking care of and loving his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Hatfield, and two sisters, Elizabeth Winston and Mary Lou Carter. Survivors include his loving wife of more than 60 years, Velma Cameron Hatfield of Rossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie (Pam) Kirkland of Fort Oglethorpe, Johnny (Linda) Kirkland and Sammy (Tammy) Hatfield, all of Chickamauga, and Tim (Patty) Hatfield of Decatur, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Rev. David Kirkland and Rev. Ted Verville officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends after 3 p.m. today, Aug. 11, and prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Doctors and Staff of NHC of Fort Oglethorpe for their care and concern for Mr. Hatfield.
