Charline Hammel

Charline Barnes Hammel, 86, of Evans, Ga., wife of the late Paul Jonathan Hammel, entered into rest Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Chattanooga, to the late Clarence and Aline Alverson Barnes. She was a homemaker and a volunteer for the American Red Cross at Erlanger Hospital. She was also a member of Red Bank Baptist Church in Chattanooga. Survivors include her children, John Hammel, of Bloomington, Ind., and Kathy Lightner, of Evans, Ga.; grandchildren, Anna Claire Lightner, Caitlin Lightner, Paul Jonathan Hammel and Stephanie Burress. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Alzheimers Association, 106 SRP Drive, Evans, GA 30809, or the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA 30909. A memorial service was held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, in the Church of Our Saviour with the Rev. John R. West Jr. officiating.
