Lillian Meek

Lillian Faye Case Meek, 86, of Sanford and Murrells Inlet, S.C., died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines, N.C. She was born on July 12, 1928 in Graysville, Tenn., to Charles Franklin Case and Jessie Wilson Case. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Martin Meek; sisters, Saragene Case Turner, Carolyn Case Meek; and brother, Charles F. Case Jr. Known fondly as Mama, Granny and Great-granny, Lillian is survived by her daughter, Loraine Faye Meek Cress and husband, James A. Ryser; daughter-in-law, Katherine Hartman Meek Owen and husband, Dale; seven grandchildren, Caprice Cress McNeill, William Cody Cress, III, Ashley Meek Hahn, Damon Martin Meek, Lindsay Meek Luton, Jessica Meek Peele, and Whitney Meek Buechel. She was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, Lillian Quinn, Warner, Ava, Banks, Callie, Chloe, Cameron Kate, Raleigh, Addison, Harrison and Skylar. Ms. Meek was career civil service working as supervisor of medical records at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in South Carolina. After retiring she then worked many years at Belk in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Lillian was also an original member of the Columbia, South Carolina meter maids. Lillian was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her determination, stamina, and warmth. She was an avid card and board game player showing her competitive side. She loved to read and had recently learned to use a Kindle. She was greatly loved and will be missed. A private graveside service for family will be held at Buffalo Church Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, with Chaplain James Helton officiating. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to a celebration of Lillians life at 6:30 p.m. 2100 Lakeland Drive, Sanford, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
