Ted Phillips

Theodore "Ted" F. Phillips, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at the Abby Maes Hill Assisted Living in Spring City. Born in Patterson, N.J., Ted was the son of the late Abe and Anne Viness Phillips. He was a graduate of Chattanooga High School, Class of 1942. Ted was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard, served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1953, he established, owned and operated the well-known Ted's Service Station in Chattanooga. He was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple in Chattanooga and was a lifetime member of both. Ted was of the Jewish faith. He was preceded in death by wife of 63 years, Alice Blanton Phillips. Ted is survived by his daughter, Melody (Curtis) Reser, of Chattanooga; and granddaughter, Raleigh Palis, of Houston, Texas. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Billy Dean officiating. There will be no visitation. "Special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Abby Maes Hill. Thank you for all the kindness you showed Dad." In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Fund in care of the Alhambra Shrine Temple, 1000 Alhambra Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421-3701.
