Artie Howard

Artie Lee Baltimore Howard, 92, passed away away at home with family at her bedside in Conway, S.C., on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, after a long illness. Artie was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, but lived in Conway, S.C., for the past 15 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a longtime member of Frawley Road Baptist Church of East Ridge. Mrs. Howard was a Sunday school teacher and involved in other volunteer work at the church. Artie had a passion for orphan children and extended a helping hand to many throughout her life. She loved to travel, crochet and make crafts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle I. Lowrey and Neely Baltimore; husband, Bernus Howard, Chattanooga; one son, G. Terry Thomas, Conway, S.C.; three sisters, Edna Holloman, Lily Tatum, Leiron Short, all from Chattanooga; and one brother, Frankie Baltimore, Chickamauga, Ga. She is survived by three daughters, Joy Sharon Turner, city unknown, Jeanie Thomas Guess, Mooresville, N.C., and Linda Yearout, Conway, S.C. She has five grandsons; two granddaughters; six great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; with numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life service at the Chapel at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, at 11 a.m. Sunday with the retired Rev. Billy Dean of Frawley Baptist Church, Chattanooga, officiating.
