Mertie Newton

Mertie Belle Hubbard Newton, 92, of East Ridge departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014. She was born in Crossville, Tenn., to the late Fred and Mary Ann Hubbard and was a member of Spring Creek Church of God in East Ridge. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Newton. Survivors include her daughters, Cathy (Bob) Slaton, of Ringgold, Patsy Penrod, of Lexington, Ky.; sister, Zena Fish, of Crossville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Minister Bennie Mills officiating. Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.
