Shirleen Vassey

Shirleen Davis Vassey, 79, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, 2014, at a Chattanooga Hospital. She was co-owner at Vassey's Lawn and Garden and was retired from First American Bank. She loved to camp and enjoyed watching Lady Vols basketball. She loved her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ophas and Beulah Matthews Davis and two brothers, Waymon and Paul Davis. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Don Vassey, of Cleveland; children, Donna Matson and husband, Pete and David Vassey and wife, Karen, all of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Jon (Jenny) Matson, Brad (Amanda) Matson, Meredith Matson, Jansen Massey, Kelly (Jacob) Ruth and Brittani Still; four great-grandchildren, Mallory Matson, Kate Matson, Colin Matson and Cooper Still; two sisters, Naomi (James) Droke, of Cleveland and Connie (David) Delmas, of Riceville; special friends, Clarence and Ravonda Hawkins, Harold and Carmalynn Russell, George and Geneva Loudermilk, David and Cathy Worley and Vic and Cheryl Coppinger. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. today, Aug. 28, 2014 at Candies Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Jamison Work, pastor officiating. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jon Matson, Brad Matson, Jansen Vassey, Jacob Ruth, Mark Smalling, and Lance Dixon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Rodney Hamilton, Clarence Allen, Tim Davis, Ronnie Hartsell, Raymond Shew, Vic Coppinger and Bill Smalling. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Chattanooga Heart Institute or Candies Creek Baptist Church Music Ministry.
