Fount Farris

Fount Farris, 93, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Mr. Farris was born in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Dewitt Hopkins and Nettie Woodson Farris. During World War II, he served in the United States Army. After returning home he farmed, and in 1983, retired after 37 years of service at AVCO Industries in Nashville where he worked as a shipping supervisor. Mr. Farris was a long time member of Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Gladys Wheeler Farris, who died in 2004; grandson, Hank Bryant; and by eight brothers. Mr. Farris is survived by his daughters, Shirley Nelson and husband, Paul, Chattanooga, Debbie Bryant and husband, Willie, Rockvale, Tenn.; brother, Bob Farris, Rockvale; grandchildren, David Bryant, Cliff Nelson and wife, Sarah Kreitzer, Clint Bryant, Megan Salladay and husband, Gray; great-grandchildren, Austin, Jaxson and Becca Bryant. Family members will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. today, Aug. 31, 2014 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Deacon Paul Nelson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in King Cemetery. Willie Bryant, David Bryant, Cliff Nelson, Clint Bryant, Gray Salladay, Austin Bryant and Jaxson Bryant will serve as pallbearers. The family of Mr. Farris would like to express their thanks to the staff of the North Wing of Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Fount while under their care.
