Martha Coffey

Martha Elizabeth DeFriese Coffey, 92, was released from her earthly bonds on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014. Born on Feb. 21, 1922, she was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and a member of Newnan Springs United Methodist Church. Martha retired from TVA in 1985 after 33 years in power accounting. She will be remembered as a loving, good natured, hard-working individual whose perseverance was to be admired. Always a fair person, a giver and a positive influence, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Kate Igou DeFriese; husband, Charles S. Coffey; and brother, Jimmie (Estelle) DeFriese. Survivors include her sons, William S. (Sandy) Coffey and Charles Scott Coffey; grandchildren, Jason (Catherine) Coffey and his daughter Abby, Erica (Rudy) Hausler, Michael (Megan) Coffey and Charley Coffey; also surviving are nieces, Judy Duncan, Debby Demos, Nancy Puryear, Kathy Evans and Jimmy Dee Kelly. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Avalon Hospice and especially the caring staff at The Rosewood in Fort Oglethorpe. The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
