Ramon Perdue

Ramon Perdue, 82, went to the home prepared for him by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, after a valiant battle with a lingering illness. He passed away while surrounded by his loving and caring family. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Ramon moved to Chattanooga in 1980 from Montgomery, Ala., when Provident Life and Accident (now Unum) enticed him to sell his company and assume an executive management role. He eventually held the jobs of chief officer of the Life and the Marketing Departments before retiring from Provident in 1993. He went on to serve on the boards of First American Bank, the Chattanooga Symphony, Changed Lives and Bryan College. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and the president of the churchs choir. He was also an active member of the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, Lookout Mountain Fairyland Club and the Mountain City Club. He was very involved with and supportive of the Alabama Football Team (Roll-Tide!) and helped recruit several key players for Coach Bear Bryant (back when that was allowed). He was also elected as the president of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association in 1981. His loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator, dearly miss him. The family has been blessed not only by the loving support of their family but also from the community, hospital staff, hospice and friends. Ramon is survived by his wife, Trudy Miller Perdue; their children, Emmett (Terri), Creagh Hardin (Tim) and Kelly (Suzie); his grandchildren, Missy DeVore (Aaron), Timmy Hardin (Pruitt) and April Hardin; and his great-grandchildren, Winter VanHoose, Ella and Abigail Hardin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lee and Ursula Perdue; his sister, Dorothy Bates; his in-laws, Tom Miller and Sara Webb-Miller; and his brother in-law, Thomas R. Miller. Services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, Chattanooga, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the following: Changed Lives (changedlives.org), First Presbyterian Church Missions (1stpresbyterian.com) or Bryan College (bryan.edu).
