Betty Byron

Betty Ford Byron, 90, passed peacefully from this life Dec. 24, 2014, at her home in Dayton. Betty was born and lived her early years in Chattanooga before moving to Dayton in 1938. She was a faithful member of the Dayton Church of Christ. Betty was renowned among her family and friends for her generous spirit, dry sense of humor, kindheartedness, and natural talent on the piano. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Byron; infant son, Steve Courtland Byron; parents, Ulysses and Lois Blessing Ford; brother, James H. Ford; and sisters, Margaret Knight and Virginia Voigt. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Frances Byron of Dayton; son, Edward (Diane) Byron of Spring City; sister, Frances Ford Watt of Atlanta; granddaughter, Tami Byron of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Kyla (Jeremy) Shell and Corey Long of Chattanooga; great-great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Marley and Landon Shell; and nine nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton. The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dayton Church of Christ or Avalon Hospice.
