Catherine Lane

Catherine Pearl Anderson Lane, 92, of Hixson, entered the eternal Kingdom of heaven on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. She was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Sweetwater, Tenn., to John Anderson and Emma Kyker Anderson. She attended schools in Niota, Tenn.. Catherine had been a resident of Hamilton County, for more than 70 years. She was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church Chattanooga where she enjoyed teaching 4 and 5 year olds in the Sunday School. Catherine was a loving wife and beloved mother, was a gourmet Tennessee cook and claimed she was born with a spoon in her hand. She enjoyed baking delicious fruit pies and preparing just-harvested, fresh vegetables from her husbands garden. Catherines greatest loves were for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family. She was married for over 70 years to James Marshall Lane who preceded her in death along with a son, Gary Marshall Lane. She was the tenth of 12 children and is survived by her sister, Anna Kay Patton; and her brother, Roy Anderson of Athens, Tenn. Catherine is also survived by her son, Charles Edward (Billie) Lane Sr.; and her daughter, Judith Lane Gray; four grandsons, Don (Janye) Gray, Troy Gray, Tim (Cindy) Gray and Charles (Kendall) Lane Jr., of Knoxville; four great-grandsons, Lucas and Jacob Gray, Sebastian Gray and Charles E. Lane III. She had many beloved nieces and nephews in the Chattanooga Athens Sweetwater area as well as many friends. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the North Chapel. A celebration of Catherines life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel with Pastor Ken Clark officiating.
