Rosemary Cameron

Rosemary Hutson Camerons life ended Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. She spent her last days at home, surrounded by family and friends, laughter and love; it was just what she wanted. Her lifes journey began on Aug. 4, 1931. She was born in West Union, W.Va., delivered at home by her aunt, a midwife. A premature baby, only four pounds, and trooper from the start, she slept in a dresser drawer, amid hot water bottles for warmth. She wore her father's handkerchiefs for diapers; the regular ones were too large. After World War II, her family moved to Chattanooga. She survived polio at 15, quite a feat in the 1940s. She graduated from Central High School in 1949, a member of the National Honor Society, and attended the University of Chattanooga (now UTC). In 1955, she married Jim Cameron, her true companion. They had three children and moved to Soddy-Daisy. He called her his "red-headed angel". They loved and fought for 52 years, and he preceded her in death in 2007. She was employed mainly in office management, most notably at Metropolitan Life and Dupont Community Credit Union. Her final employment was at WalMart in Soddy-Daisy, where her smile brightened the jewelry department. She retired in 2013. She was kind, selfless, and good-hearted. She had a wicked wit. She loved babies, and small animals. She collected hearts and friends as some collect pennies. She was a second mother or grandmother to many, and always generous with her pocketbook and her time. She is survived by her children, Brett Lee Cameron, Robin Cameron-Carter and Shellie Cameron Vandergriff; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Leigh Terry and Lance Cameron Carter. Also surviving is her brother, Joseph Edward Hutson; and sister-in-laws, Joyce Nicely Greene and Judy Nicely McNabb; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home in Soddy-Daisy, with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating. Family visitation and reminiscences will be from noon to 4 p.m. on the 8th prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga (P.O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, TN 37416). An extra thanks to Life Care Center of Hixson, especially her therapists, Deandra and Haley; they were true and caring professionals, and a blessing to her. Condolences and memories can be shared at www.williamsonandsons.com. Arrangements are by Williamson and Sons Funeral Home, 8852 Dayton Pike, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379.
