James David Gibson, Sr. 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Feb. 9, 2014. His heavenly mansion has now been completed. A native of Soddy-Daisy, he enlisted in the Navy in 1954. He proudly served his country for more than 21 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Gibson; mother, Martine Gibson; brothers, John Gibson and Marlin Gibson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Geneva Bowman, who loved him like a son. He is survived by his loving wife, Faye Gibson; five sons and their wives, the Rev. J.D. and Rosetta Gibson, Kenny and Malissa Gibson, Robert and Lee Anne Gibson, Steve and Wendy Gibson, and Marc and Stacy Gibson, all of Chickamauga; two sisters, Mary Wilson, of Soddy-Daisy and Rosa Hall, of Soddy-Daisy; brother Fred Gibson, of California; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him, but God knew best. David fought with such courage, strength, and love to stay with all who knew and loved him, for over 35 years, since a car-train accident in 1978. But God saw that he needed rest. Oh, if only all of us could have caught a glimpse of that heavenly homecoming, that he had, when he opened those beautiful brown eyes, in heaven. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. J.D. Gibson and Rev. Oscar Stapp officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. today and prior to the service on Wednesday. Arrangements by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.
