Daniel Kowats

Daniel "Colonel Dan" Frank Kowats, 91, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. He was born in Stafford, Conn., to the late John and Catherine Votre Kowats. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Air Force where he piloted a B-17 Bomber and completed over 40 missions. He served an additional 20 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and retired as Lt. Colonel. He was also a retired engineer from General Electric in Waynesboro, Va. After retiring he resided in Ormond Beach, Fla. for over 20 years. He was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the 384th Bomb Group, Inc.; 8th Air Force. He was a Life Master Duplicate Bridge player. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid fan of crossword puzzles. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Patricia Johnson Kowats, sister: Helen Montgomery, brothers: Jimmy and John Kowats. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Greg Hart, of Berryville, Va., Gail and Bert Glenfield, of Chickamauga; grandchildren, Lisa Glenfield Miller, of Chickamauga, Dan Glenfield, of Chattanooga, Nathan Glenfield, Matt Glenfield, both of Chickamauga, Rebecca Hart Pickrell, of Vienna, Va., Abby Hart Blaine, of Berryville, Va.; great-grandchildren, Griffin Miller, Nick Miller, Zach Miller, Jared Glenfield, Elise Glenfield, Melanie Pickrell, Alaina Pickrell; several nieces and nephews. The family will have a Celebration of Life service from 2-4 p.m. today, Feb. 15, 2014. Colonel Dan will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Patricia at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors at a later date.
