Laury Weaver

Laury King Weaver, Jr went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014. He was born July 21, 1921 in Rome, GA to Rev. Laury K. Weaver, Sr. and Mary Edward Weaver. He was educated at Tyner High, Duke University, and New York University School of Safety. He moved to Chattanooga with his family where he attended high school before entering the US Navy. While serving in the US Navy, he participated in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during World War II. After leaving the Navy at the end of World War II, Mr. Weaver joined the US Army serving with the 28th Infantry Division in Europe, Air Defense Artillery, and US Army Recruiting Command until his retirement in 1962. He retired from the military with six major battle ribbons and honored for outstanding service as a JAG officer. Following Mr. Weavers retirement from public service, he went into business, forming his own company, Consultants in Safety and Health, Inc. His company served as industrial safety consultants in TN, GA, and AL. He was a safety advisor with Thomas W. McCutchean, Attorney at Law and Higginbothom & Whitten, Florence AL. He was a member and officer of the Tri-State Safety Association. He was recognized by Governors of AL and KY as a safety advisor to their states. As a safety engineer he served as safety advisor for Chattanooga State and lectured at UAB on industrial safety. Mr. Weaver was a member of Masonic Lodge 114, Harrison, TN, serving as Secretary and Treasurer. He served as a Jr. Deacon at Brainerd Baptist Church, where he also sang in the mens quartet, and was President of his Sunday school class. He also sang in the choir while attending Duke University. Mr. Weaver was a member of Ridgedale Baptist and the Luther Sunday School class. He was married to the late Mary Juanita (Juanie) Wilson Weaver as a loving husband for over 69 years. He leaves behind two children, Laurie K. Wilson-Weaver, MAJ US Army Retired, and Jana Susan Weaver, grandson, Laury K. Weaver IV, daughter-in-law Sandra Hill, grandchildren Clay Weaver, Jenny Steel, and Shelly James, along with two great-granddaughters Emma and Kate Steele. He is also survived by his sister Martha Kelly in FL, and nieces Charlene Arnold, Judy King, and Carol King. Dr. Doug Plumlee will conduct a celebration of Mr. Weavers life for family and friends at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel on Monday, February 17th, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Visitation with family Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 3-7pm and 12:30 to 1:30pm on Monday. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
