Clyde Buttram

Clyde H. Buttram, 89, of Chattanooga peacefully passed from this life and went to be with his Lord on Feb. 13, 2014 with his family at his bedside. He was a member of the Hamill Road Church of Christ which became Hixson Church of Christ for many years, and then became a member of the Central Church of Christ for over 15 years. Clyde was attending Kirkman High School at the time he entered the U.S. Navy in January 1943. A WWII Veteran, Clyde had proudly served his country as Radarman 3rd class on the U.S.S. New Orleans. This ship earned 17 battle stars, 12 of these engagements were earned while Clyde was in active service in the Pacific. He served 8 more years as a reservist following his honorable discharge in 1946. He worked at the Wheland foundry as a machinist then at American Lava/3M Company, Clyde was a foreman over maintenance. He retired from 3M in 1981. As a young boy he delivered newspapers in Chattanooga, helped out on the family farms in Dayton, TN., and enjoyed playing baseball. As a father and Grandpa he enjoyed coaching ball teams and loved to tease and play with his 11 grandkids, 5 great-grandchildren and his dog, Smokey. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Blanche Best Buttram; and wife, Louise White Buttram; sister, Martha Porter; son-in-law, Bryan Gore and grandson, Marcus Gore. Survivors include his sons; William "Buster" Buttram of Chattanooga, Robert (Heather) Buttram of Chattanooga, Bryan (Leslie) Buttram of Rochester, New York, daughter; Beckie Gore of Hixson, brother; James (Janice) Buttram of Hixson, sister; Emily Parson of Hixson, and many nieces, nephews, grand and great grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Minister David Schonhoff officiating. The family will receive friends today, Feb. 17, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the North Chapel. For those of you that wish to make donations in lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.
