Johnie Smith

Johnie Melvin Smith, Sr., age 86 of Chickamauga, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. He was born in Benham, KY to the late George and Zetty Burrows Smith. He was a resident of Chickamauga for most of his life and a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. Johnie served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired from Salem Carpet after 20 yrs. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Ann Smith; great grandchild, Dakota Susa; and 8 brothers & sisters. Johnie is survived by his children, Johnie M. Smith, Jr. of Ringgold, James Harvey (Kim) Smith of Ringgold and Jerry Lee (Whitney) Smith of Chickamauga; siblings, Jerry Smith, Margaret Gravitt, Harold Smith and Patricia Ann Johnson; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Frank Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Ascalon Cemetery, Lookout Mtn. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. today, 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and just prior to the service on Wednesday. Arrangements by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home-Ft.
