Charles "Kenny" Kenneth Higdon, 74, of Portland, Ore., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. He was born on Signal Mountain on May 14, 1939 to Edith and Charles Higdon. He graduated from Chattanooga City High School, and went on to study at the University of Tennessee. Kenny was a wonderful husband, father, artist and humanitarian. He was a freelance illustrator for over thirty years and, as a painter, his work was shown by galleries across the U.S. An avid reader, he also loved jokes, music, and hiking. He was enthusiastic in all things and enjoyed life with vigor. He is survived by his wife, Naomi Sakanoue; son, Key Higdon; daughter, Jennifer Higdon and her partner, Cheryl Lawson; brother, Steve Higdon and his wife, Donna; nephew, Matthew Higdon; nephew, Brad Higdon and family; niece, Christie Higdon Ross and family; aunt, Marie Davis, of Rossville, Ga.; former wife, Judy Higdon; Tennessee relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Higdon; mother, Edith Higdon; and father, Charles Higdon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cedar Mill Library, 12505 NW Cornell Road, Suite 13, Portland, Oregon, 97229. A celebration of Kenny's life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, in the Garden Room of the Elephants Delicatessen, 115 N.W. 22nd Ave., Portland.
