Kevin Maurice Thomas, 55, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. He was a 1976 graduate of Kirkman High School. He attended Hiwassee College as well as Lee College. From 1982-83, Kevin played semi-professional basketball for the Montheys in Valais, Switzerland. He was formerly employed by Mueller Co. for 20 years and recently employed by Hawker Power Inc. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert (Mae Ola) Gilbert; mother, Dorothy (Willie Frank) Scott; brothers, Reginald D. Scott and Ronald Gilbert; sister, Yolanda Scott; mother-in-law, Ella (James) Foust. Survivors include his devoted wife, Tawaina Dena Thomas; son, Eric Dewayne Hughes Jr., of Harrison; five grandchildren, Dominiquea, Eric III, Kyjuan, Zariah and Kiera Hughes; sisters, Karen Scott and Joyce (Clyde) Robinson, both of Chattanooga; brothers, Mark (Lenell) Gilbert, Reginald Gilbert, Roderick Gilbert and Albert Gilbert III; aunts, Diane Williams and Mary Usher, both of Chattanooga; uncles, Robert (Catrina) Rice, of Chattanooga and Thomas (LaRita) Rice, of Jonesboro, Ga.; two nieces; one nephew; several cousins and many friends. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Gerry Davis as the eulogist. Burial: Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 6-7 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home.
