Lessie Mae Lewis

Lessie Mae Lewis, 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Alexian Village, a retirement community in Signal Mountain. She was formerly of Bossier City, La. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ambers Jackson "A.J." Lewis in 2000; by three sisters, Clara Walker, Marie Peret and Laverne Turner; two brothers, Thomas Delk and Ernest Delk. Lessie Mae was born in Natchitoches, La., and married A.J. in 1936. Both spent many years active in numerous civic and community organizations, most notably the Masons and the Eastern Star. She and A.J. traveled extensively and both made lasting friendships with others around the world. Lessie Mae was an outstanding organizer and leader of numerous charity events and she spent many years as an active volunteer at the local hospital in Bossier City. She was a strong-willed loving and caring mother of three sons, Jim (wife Emogene), of Signal Mountain, Don (wife Betty), of Hoover, Ala., and Fred (wife Maureen), of Bernville, Pa. She adored her three grandchildren, Jennifer Gess (husband Pete), of Little Rock, Ark., Matthew Lewis, of San Diego, Calif., and Elizabeth Deal (husband Jesse), of Marlton, N.J.; and her two great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Simon Gess, of Little Rock, Ark. During her years at Alexian Village, Lessie Mae touched the lives of many with her compassion and caring, organizing afternoon teas for her many friends, and pitching in to help fellow residents with whatever needs that would arise. She loved cooking, and many can attest to her knack for making biscuits that were simply too good for this world. Her love for her family and friends was unquestionable. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Services in Bossier City in her memory are being planned for this Spring, and will be announced at a later date.
