Mildred Maxine Elliott Carr, 94, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Star Regional Medical Center in Athens, Tenn. Mrs. Carr was born July 19, 1919 to James H. and Ruth Elliott. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 69 years, Jesse E. Carr. Mrs. Carr retired from South Central Bell on May 1979 after 38 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church where she and her husband had many friends within the church family. Mrs. Carr and her husband previously resided in Hickory Valley Retirement Center in Chattanooga. Mrs. Carr was a resident of Morning Point Assisted Living in Athens, Tenn., at the time of her death. Her family wrote that Maxine always approached life with a positive attitude with no harsh words spoken about anyone. She was always complimentary and thankful to everyone that helped her. Her outlook was to: "We will just wait and see what tomorrow brings" She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, she was just a great lady. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in the Chapel of Devotion at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson. Dr. David Harr will be in charge of the service. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Devotion. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to First-Centenary United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
