Mary Thomasson

Mary Jane Pittman Thomasson passed away on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013. She was born on June 14, 1923 in Chattanooga, the daughter of Willie Moran Pittman and William L. Pittman. She was the beloved wife of Charles H. Thomasson, her husband of 71 years, who passed away only three months prior. She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Ward Close), Paul (Kathy) and Mark (Karen); as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Drake, of Chattanooga. Mary worked more than 30 years in the city of Chattanooga tax department advocating for those whose properties were in distress. She and Charlie were lifelong members of the Church of Christ where they formed lasting friendships and were much loved as mentors to generations of younger people. She was an enthusiastic wife and mother who exemplified, "If a little is good, more is better," and her proudest accomplishment was her children, whom she delighted in telling about. She cared more than others thought wise, risked more than others thought safe, dreamed more than others thought practical and expected more than others thought possible. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Phillips Robinson Funeral Home in Nashville. A private graveside service will be held in North Carolina at a later date.
