Terry Lee Roy, 66, was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 with his loving family at his side. The patriarch of the Roy family, Terry was a genuine American Hero. He served his beloved country as a decorated Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a Vietnam veteran, having fought beside some of Americas most courageous men in Vietnam (1966-67). Terry was of the Baptist faith and a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. Born on March 15, 1947 in Bradley County, Terry is preceded in death by his parents A.J. and Bell Roy; his brother Jessie Roy; and his father-in-law C.L. McDaniel. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Freida McDaniel Roy. Other survivors include, son, Mark Roy and wife Valerie; daughter Kristi Beach and husband James; sister Sherrie (Ernie) Taylor; sister-in-law Jo Ann McDaniel; mother-in-law Mazie McDaniel; (2) nieces; and (2) nephews. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Emma Beach, Amanda Roy and Connor Beach, who were the pride and joy of his earthly world. Terry worked at Combustion Engineering/Alstom Power where he was a devoted employee for 44 years before retiring in April, 2009. It was a profession he enjoyed, and a place where he bonded with countless co-workers and made lasting friendships he cherished. Terry was an avid fisherman who made many a memory in search of the catch and who used the boat and water to craft many more lasting friendships through the years. A special thanks to the staff at Memorial Oncology Unit 4 East where they treated Terry like a "King" (in his own words) and to Dr. Davey Daniel of Tn. Oncology. Our family would also like to express our appreciation to all for the outpouring of love and support from the many co-workers, fishing buddies and friends who took time to visit, call, prepare food and pray for us. None of you have gone unnoticed and were a true blessing to us all. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully asks contributions be made to the childrens ministry of Cross Roads Baptist Church, 9122 Ooltewah-Georgetown Rd, Ooltewah TN 37363. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday Jan. 6, in the Valley View Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Holder officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens East. Active and Honorary Pallbearers will be his co-workers and fishing buddies. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. today at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
