Seth Eichenthal

Seth Lurie Eichenthal, 23, died in a tragic accident on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 while on vacation near Innsbruck in the Austrian Alps. Seth moved to Chattanooga from Brooklyn, New York with his family in 2002. He graduated from Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts (CSLA) and from Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences (CSAS) in 2008. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 2012, and in late 2013 he received a Master's degree in General Structural Engineering from Imperial College London. In September, Seth began work at his first professional full-time job with Ferrovial Agroman, based in Austin, Texas and Madrid, Spain. At the time of his death, he was about to begin work in Madrid. Seth lived life to the fullest, with the spirit of a fearless adventurer, a mischievous sense of humor, and endless curiosity. He was a fiercely devoted friend to many people all over the world, and a loving son, brother and grandson. Seth's many passions included engineering, travel, skiing, gourmet cooking, architecture, sports, music, movies, music, dancing, museums, photography and learning. Above all, he loved life. Seth passionately wanted to make the world a better place and inspired those who knew him to make that their dream as well. Seth is survived by his father David Eichenthal, former Chattanooga City Finance Officer and former President of the Ochs Center; Bea Lurie, President and CEO of Girls Inc.; and his sister, Emily Lurie Eichenthal, a freshman at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 6, at B'nai Zion Congregation with burial to follow immediately at the B'nai Zion Cemetery. As we pray that Seth's memory continue to be a blessing in this world, the family is requesting donations made in Seth's memory be made to the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Inc. for the Together We Can Scholarship program. Preference will be given to students from CSAS with an interest in engineering. The foundation's address is 1270 Market Street, Chattanooga, 37402. In his short time on earth, Seth had a tremendous impact on all of our lives. We all are mourning his untimely death and know that his life was for a blessing.
