George Barrett

George Erick Barrett, 88, went home to be with The Lord Friday, Jan. 10, 2014. He was born in Subligna, Ga., on Jan. 18, 1924 to the late James R. and Effie McGraw Barrett. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the following Metals: EAMETO, Good Conduct, WWII Victory and two Purple Hearts. He retired from Combustion Engineering after thirty-one years of service. He was a devoted member of Community Baptist Church in Rock Spring, Ga., where he served as Deacon and member of the Senior Saints Sunday School Class. He was a lifelong resident of Chickamauga where he loved his church family, and enjoyed working on lawnmowers with his brother: Charlie. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Margaret Fine Barrett; grandson, Stephen Barrett; sister, Nell Mullis; brothers, James H. "Buck" Barrett, H.D. "Boss" Barrett and Bobby Barrett. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Johnnie Barrett, of Rock Spring, Ga., Gene and Martha Barrett, of Chickamauga, Ga.; sister, Betty Mann; brother, Charlie Barrett, both of Chickamauga, Ga.; grandchildren, David (Apryl) Barrett, Hannah (Josh) Wooten and Jamey Millican; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends today from 2-8 p.m. and Monday from Noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Community Baptist Church with Reverends George and Mike Angel officiating. The family will also receive friends at the church prior to the service Monday after 3 p.m. Interment will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Chattanooga Veterans National Cemetery.
