Ellen Ortwein

Ellen Ortwein, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at her residence. She has lived most of her life in the North Georgia area and was a member of East Ridge United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women where she had served as treasurer and was also a member of the choir. Mrs. Ortwein was retired from North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. after several years of service and was most recently employed with Caldstead Foundation. She also served at the Westside voting precinct. She enjoyed an active lifestyle including gardening, yard work, hosting family gatherings and Church events. Her hobbies included reading and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Ortwein was preceded in death by her husband, William H Ortwein Sr.; brother, Glenn Linderman; sisters, Maxine Caldwell and Alice Holtzclaw. Survivors are her daughter, Nancy (Doug) Albritton, of Ringgold; son, W.H. "Butch" (Mary) Ortwein, of Fort Oglethorpe; grandchildren, Adam (Cynthia) Ortwein, Corey (Ashley) Ortwein, Asa and Noah Albritton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ken Sauer officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
