Sgt. Wilbur Bowman

Sgt. Wilbur J. Bowman Sr., affectionately known to many as "Sarge", age 93, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at his residence. He served in the U.S. Army for 26 years, having retired in 1963. He was on active duty during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a carpenter. He is survived by four sons, Wilbur J. (Beverly) Bowman Jr., of Nashville, Dennis (Sandy) Bowman, of Chattanooga, Larry (Mary Lou) Bowman, of Texas and Tracy (Marienne) Bowman, of Nashville; six grandchildren, Gary, Brandi, Peter, Stacie, Shaun and Matthew; and several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Brothers Donnie Kelly and Michael Hale officiating and interment to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Visitation will be 1 until 7 p.m. today and 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at 2 p.m. DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville is in charge of the arrangements.
