Jerry L. Crandell, 69, of Apison, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a Vietnam Veteran in the U.S. Air Force serving from 1963-1967. He enjoyed numerous outdoor activities; such as camping, whitewater paddling and mountain biking where lifelong friendships were formed. He was preceded in death by parents, Forrest and Irene Crandell; sisters, Marjory Read and Peggy Chapman. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Barbara; daughters, Michelle (George) Bercaw, Monica Crandell Stone; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren who lovingly called him Poppy. Graveside services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17.
