Gwendolyn Myers

LaFAYETTE Gwendolyn Love Myers, 93, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, in Fort Oglethorpe, surrounded by her family. She was born in Chattooga County, Ga., to the late Jefferson Lindsey Love and Leona Ellenburg Love on Sept. 3, 1920, and grew up in the Waterville community. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Winfield Vance Myers and daughter, Rebecca Vance Myers. During World War II, she was employed by the Selective Service. After the war, she was employed by the Walker County Board of Education as a reading teacher and later secretary of the Fortune Grammer school, where she was recognized as the secretary of the year by the LaFayette Chamber of Commerce. Her family was her life. A faithful member of LaFayette Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, she was an avid reader and bird watcher. She is survived by her daughter, Nita (Bryant) Henry, of LaFayette; and her son, Winfield (Dena) Myers, of Rome, Ga. Also surviving are her sister, Juanita Love Fariss; niece, Martha Crowe Pope; and nephews, Jeff Fariss, Sam Fariss, Roger Crowe, Myers Mason, Scott Mason and Robert Myers. Funeral from LaFayette Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 21, with the service being conducted by the Rev. Ken Waddell and Rev. Cathy Meyer officiating. Pallbearers will be Scott Mason, Roger Crowe, Jeff Fariss, Tom Taylor, Bob Chapman and Rex Knight. Honorary pallbearers are the members of LaFayette Presbyterian Church and the staff at Shepherd Hills Nursing home. Burial will follow immediately in LaFayette Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to LaFayette Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1193, LaFayette, GA 30728. The arrangements are by the Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
