James Robert "Bob" Travis, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his friends Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in Chattanooga. Bob was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family & friends. He was retired from Combustion Engineering after 38 years, many of which he spent playing softball for their travel team, as well as other teams in Dayton and Chattanooga. Bob was very active in Dayton Youth Baseball and a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He was an active member of the Dayton First Baptist Church, serving as the Chairman of Deacons; Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Shepherds for Christ Sunday School class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lena Travis; sisters, Helen Travis, Imogene Powell (L.E.), Maxine White and Anne Roddy; brother, Joe Travis; brother-in-law, Alvin Sneed. Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley Mize Travis; children, Jamie Travis (Kristy), Ashlee Reel (Chad) and Blake Travis (Meghan); grandchildren, Jacelyn, Kasen, Chelsea, Jantzen, Emree and an expected grandson; sisters, Lennie Alice Sneed, Shirley Barnett (Ted) and Bennie Aikman (Bob); sister-in-law, Emily Travis; brother-in-law, Felix Roddy; several nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wedneday, Jan. 22, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jeff Dew and the Rev. Milton Knox officiating. Burial in Buttram Cemetery.
