George Hixson

George Edward Hixson, 77, of Red Bank, passed away Thursday July 3, 2014, in a local hospital. George was of the Baptist faith. He had retired from Mueller Corporation after 30 years of service and had retired from Avis after 14 years of service. He was a well-known official with the TSSAA for 32 years and bowler in Chattanooga and across the State of Tennessee. He won the Music City U.S.A. Bowling Classic held in Nashville, Tenn., in 1978. He had also won the doubles division in the Southern Bowling Tournament a few years earlier. George had attended the National Bowling Tournament for more than 25 years in a number of cities across the United States. He had worked with the youth bowlers of Chattanooga and Tennessee some 30 years, serving on the Chattanooga YABA board and serving as the president. He represented the Chattanooga area as a member of the board of director on the Tennessee State YABA. He was instrumental in the special bowlers being able to bowl in the leagues in both of the association. Final after all of his achievements in bowling George was honored on May 17, 2014, by being inducted into the Chattanooga CABA Bowling Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy "Doc" and Louella Ferguson Hixson; infant brother, Charles Raymond Hixson; wife, Greta Hogue Hixson. Survivors are his best friend, Jane Nelson; step daughter, Claudia Dalton; step-grandsons, Martin Winters, Matthew and Marcus Dalton, all of Chattanooga; sister, Chris (Burton) Jones of Ringgold; brother, Wallace (Brenda) Hixson, of Pikeville, Tenn. Visitation will be 11 a.m. -2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, in the Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Rev.
