Madlyne Pirtle

Madlyne L. Pirtle, 69, died Thursday, July 3, 2014. Madlyne was born in Athens, Tenn., to Emily and Robert T. Land Sr. She was a graduate of McMinn High School and went to work at Firestone. She fell in love and married her soul mate, Clyde Pirtle. For a number of years she was a stay-at-home mom who nurtured their three children. Madlyne re-entered the work force and for 20 years was the office manager for State Farm Agent, M. L. Mulligan Jr. After retirement, Clyde and Madlyne enjoyed camping excursions in their travel trailer with dogs, Brandy and Nikki. Madlynes compassion for others showed through the numerous caps for premees and lap quilts for cancer patients that she knitted. She was also a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church and the Morgan Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, H. Clyde Pirtle; and brother, Robert T. Land Jr. Survivors include her children, Robert (Liz) Pirtle, Susan Pirtle and Harrison (Judy) Pirtle; grandchildren, Allison (Chuck) Moore and Ben Pirtle; great-granddaughters, Audrey, Lydia and Evelyn; sister, Mary Ellen Burnett; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Monday with Dr. David Harr officiating. Burial will be private.
