John McAnnally

John Robert McAnnally, 67, of Signal Mountain, passed away in a local hospital on Thursday, July 3, 2014. He was born in Kinder, La., on April 3, 1947. After graduating from Auburn University, John served as a police officer in Nashville before moving to Chattanooga, John opened and operated Tennessee Financial Planning. Mr. McAnnally was an active member of the Auburn Alumni Association of Chattanooga. John had a way of making those he came into contact with feel special. He looked for and found the best in other people, and with quiet generosity, he was quick to care for anyone in need. John will be remembered for his sense of humor, positive outlook on life, and strength in times of adversity. He was a devoted husband, loving dad, doting grandpa, and stalwart friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Charles McAnnally and Ina V. Cole McAnnally; and his wife, Marilyn Griffin McAnnally. Survivors include a son, John-Ryan Griffin (Kim) McAnnally; two granddaughters, Hannah and Emma; two sisters, Martha (Darrell) Mosteller ( and Ann (Lynn) Harris; sisters-in-law, Betty (Marston) Holland and Gail Sutphon; nieces, Lindsay Sutphin, Nikki (Shane) Harris Whitehead, Stacy Gamble Lindsey, and Emily Gamble (Skylar) Chamblee; nephews Marty (Sheila) Holland and Dustin (Stacy)Holland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Auburn Alumni Association, 317 South College St., Auburn, AL 36849 and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga Inc., 200 Central Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403. A memorial service will be held at 11 .m. today, July 7, at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, 612 James Boulevard, Signal Mountain, Tenn. Visitation at the church will follow.
