Ivan Vernon

Ivan W. Vernon, 93, passed on to Glory on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ivan was a World War II veteran and a member of Falling Water Baptist Church. Ivan was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Sarah Elizabeth Vernon; parents, Odell and Desi Vernon; sons, Barron and Stephen Vernon. Ivan is survived by his daughter, Babs (Brad) Rymer, of Chattanooga; son, Tommy (Leatha) Vernon, of Kennesaw, Ga.; and his grandson, who he raised as a son, Chris (Susan) Vernon, of Cleveland; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel. Funeral service for Ivan will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home chapel with his brother Dr. Joe Vernon officiating. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
