William Ransom
William "W.D." "Dub" Ransom, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of the High Point Community where he was a former member of Lookout Baptist Church and was currently a member of Valley View Baptist Church in Flintstone. He retired from Hertz Trucks in 1990 as a service manager with over 20 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II and he also served with the Merchant Marines. Mr. Ransom was a "Jack of all trades". He was called on by many to help them fix their cars, do carpentry work (building decks), and plumbing work. His passions in life were God, church, family, gardening, and working in his yard. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Opha and Burtys Ransom; sister, Julia Massey; and grandson, Scotty Ransom. Survivors include six children, Bobbie Burks, of East Ridge, Sherry Carter, of East Ridge, Billy Ransom, of East Ridge, Hal Ransom, of Chattanooga, Dennis Ransom, of Fort Oglethorpe, and Jeff Ransom, of Fort Oglethorpe; five grandchildren, Danny Kelley, Alexis Carter, Tony Ransom, Cody Ransom and Benjamin Ransom; one great-granddaughter, Alexandria Kelley; and one niece, Kym Thomas. Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating. Military Honors will be performed. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
