Connie Atchley

Connie Jonopulos Atchley, 82, of Hixson, went peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Connie was born on July 13, 1932 in Chattanooga to the late Ezna Elizabeth and George Jonopulos who owned and operated Georges Place downtown for over 65 years. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She retired from Hamilton County School System where she drove the handicap children to school and events for over 30 years. Connie was very active in the Special Olympics and loved being involved in many actives. She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hall M. Atchley; and a sister, Helen Gates. Connie is survived by her children, Woody Atchley; Mark Atchley and wife, Starr, Daniel Atchley and wife, Lynn and Liz Allen and husband Craig; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home followed by a Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. A celebration of life service for Connie will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 722 Glenwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37404 with Father Stavros Ballas officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Connies name to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
