Juanita Brock

Juanita B. Brock, 91, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014. Born in Heavener, Okla., Nita grew up in Gallup, N.M, where she graduated from high school and attended New Mexico A&M. While working in Flagstaff, Ariz., she met a Tennessee soldier, Ray Brock. Not long after, they married and moved to Tennessee, where she worked as a secretary so Ray could attend law school. Then they moved to Chattanooga. She was employed by T.V.A. for many years, retiring so that she could assist her Ray in his successful bid for Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. She was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church where she was a former volunteer in the food pantry and office. She had also been a volunteer at the Bright School in the Library. Juanita was an avid lover of books and was well known for her stylish hats. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Ray L. Brock; daughter, Karen D. Brock; and her two brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Ila Raye (Lowell) Bennington of Harrison and Elaine B. Daniel of Hixson; grandchildren, L. Brock Bennington, Robin B. (Craig) Seaton, Blair B. (Eddie) Cannon, Jackson R. (Sarah) Daniel and Christopher L. (Christy) Daniel; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Inez McCarter, Bill Brock, Calvin (Barbara) Brock Charlotte (Don) Albritton and Laddie Brock; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, July 23, at the Pilgrim Congregational Church with Kathleen Stulce officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Turner Funeral Home Chapel.
