Mary Yandow

Mary Yandow, 93, passed away at her home at the Hickory Valley Retirement Community in Chattanooga, on Sunday, July 20, 2014. Prior to moving to Chattanooga in 2006, Mary had resided in Pensacola, Fla. for over 50 years. Mary was born and raised in Barre, Vt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Paul Louis Yandow; her parents; and four brothers. Mary and Paul were married in 1945 when Paul returned from World War II. Mrs. Yandow is survived by her children, Craig Yandow, of Port Orchard, Wash., Simone Rudge and her husband, Steve, of Hixson, and Dr. Suzanne Yandow and her husband, Dr. Sam Shomaker, of Sun Valley, Idaho; her grandchildren, Kevin Rudge (Cindy), Lori Rudge Whitten (Chuck), Simone Shomaker, Dylan Shomaker, and Garrett Shomaker; her great-grandchildren, Louis Rudge, Kristen Rudge, Audrey Rudge, William Rudge, Beckett Whitten, and Elliot Whitten; and her sister, Isabel Dever, of Stowe, Vt. Mary was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took great pride in her family. Just hearing the voices of her grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a smile to her face until the end of her life. She will be fondly remembered as "Grandma Mary" for many years to come. Mary was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Pensacola for over 50 years, and a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church while living in Chattanooga. The family would like to thank Nena Mitchell and the staff at Hickory Valley for the eight years of love and care given to Mary, and to the Caris Hospice staff for the care given during Marys last weeks. Services will be held in Pensacola at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga, 200 Central Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403. Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153.
